Guitarist Rod Poole and singer Sasha Bogdanowitsch perform nine freely improvised pieces on Mind's Island. Some of the improvisations are drones or one-chord vamps, while others are of greater interest. Bogdanowitsch's eerie vocals are wordless, while Poole displays a great deal of imagination in his solos and accompaniment. Still, the pieces could have more variety because they tend to run into each other and they do not vary the mood and tempos that much. It would be intriguing to hear this duo perform some more tightly arranged material, for they display plenty of potential and often seem to think as one.
