Après avoir été l’un des phénomènes de l’année 2013 avec son album English Rain et sa reprise de The Power of Love de Frankie Goes to Hollywood, la jeune artiste britannique a pris le temps d’engranger encore plus d’inspiration en elle et de développer sa technique au piano et à la guitare, pour donner naissance à ce tant attendu deuxième disque intitulé Light Up in the Dark. C’est encore une fois avec son comparse Luke Potashnick que Gabrielle Aplin s’est efforcée d’écrire cette collection de chansons fortement inspirées par Joni Mitchell et par Feist (plus particulièrement par l’album The Reminder de cette dernière). Sa voix à la fois juvénile et mature se voit ici sublimée par le travail de studio de Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, The National, Florence + The Machine) posant la pierre finale à cet édifice musical qui a le mérite de révéler l’énorme potentiel de cette jeune musicienne qui semble encore en avoir des tonnes sous la semelle.
