Après un hiatus de deux années, c'est non seulement avec un nouvel opus, Hymns, que reviennent les britanniques de Bloc Party, mais également un nouveau son et un nouveau lineup. Ce sont Louise Bartle (batterie) et Justin Harris (basse) de Menomena qui font leurs premiers pas avec le groupe et les deux musiciens restés en poste, Kele Okereke et Russell Lissack profitent de ce sang neuf pour prendre un nouveau cap sonore, optant pour des sonorités electro-rock au groove prononcé et une ambiance volontiers euphorique, comme sur les singles "The Love Within" et "The Good News".
