Le testament. Le chapitre final. Abbey Road qui parait en septembre 1969 est bien le dernier véritable épisode discographique des Beatles, Let It Be qui sortira en mai 1970 ayant été enregistré antérieurement. Un adieu qui magnifie l'art de la composition, la maîtrise mélodique et les équilibres harmoniques. Une fois encore la palette est large qu’il s’agisse de ballades bouleversantes ou de titres nettement plus percussifs (Come Together). Abbey Road rappelle aussi que derrière le tutélaire tandem Lennon/McCartney, George (Here Comes The Sun) et Ringo (Octopus's Garden) ne sont une fois plus pas là pour faire de la figuration… Ce chef d’œuvre, comme son succès, n’empêchera pourtant pas les Fab Four de mettre fin à leur union.
