Nati dalle ceneri dei Joy Division nei primi anni ‘80, i New Order rappresentano una delle prime, e più riuscite, unioni tra il rock’n’roll e la musica dance. Dopo il suicidio di Ian Curtis, la band più cupa dell’era punk di Manchester si è trasformata in una maestra del dancefloor, firmando la perfetta colonna sonora per la rigida Inghilterra del periodo Thatcher. Uscito nell’agosto 1987 per l’etichetta Factory, Substance è finalmente uscito in versione digitale. Riunisce tutti i singoli e i B-side, e contiene successi come Blue Monday, Ceremony, Confusion, The Perfect Kiss o Bizarre Love Triangle. Quella racchiusa in questo album è certamente l’età dell’oro del quartetto composto da Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Gillian Gilbert e Stephen Morris.
