Quando un musicista proviene dalla Louisiana, ha le orecchie sempre ben allenate. Sempre! Che si tratti di soul, blues, zydeco, rock, jazz, R&B, funk, pop, country, nessuno dell'area di New Orleans si preoccupa mai delle etichette o dei generi. Esiste solo la buona e la cattiva musica. Punto e basta. Brittany Guerin, alias Britti, ne è l'ennesima prova. Nata a Baton Rouge, questa cantante, scoperta da Dan Auerbach dei Black Keys, ha padroneggiato tutti gli stili che fanno vibrare il Sud con il loro groove unico. E con il classicismo che Britti conferisce alle sue canzoni, vengono alla mente alcuni dei suoi - altrettanto classici - predecessori. Diana Ross (Save Me) e Dolly Parton (Keep Running), ma anche Norah Jones, Erykah Badu e Amy Winehouse (in una vena meno aggressiva) sono tra i suoi idoli, e lo si percepisce nel suo album di debutto, Hello, I'm Britti, con un titolo che è un ovvio riferimento all'album di debutto di Dolly Parton del 1967, Hello, I'm Dolly.
Si percepisce, ma è un aspetto che non frena la sua ispirazione, il suo stile o la sua personalità. Esperto di apparecchiature del ventesimo secolo e di suoni vintage, Auerbach è perfetto alla produzione, caratterizzata dalla giusta quantità di toni seppia. Ha messo a disposizione della cantante un team eccezionale, tra cui il bassista Nick Movshon (Amy Winehouse, Wu Tang Clan e una serie di album con l'etichetta Daptone), il batterista Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant e Alison Krauss, Sharon Van Etten, Rhiannon Giddens), il chitarrista Tom Bukovac (Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks) e il mago delle tastiere Mike Rojas (Ricky Skaggs, Yola, Miranda Lambert). Supportato da questo cast scintillante, Hello, I'm Britti passa da vignette soul a intermezzi country pop e a riflessioni R&B con disinvoltura e con una certa classe.
