Dopo “Kylie Parton”, ecco a voi “Kylie Summer”! Nel 2018, Kylie Minogue si è lanciata in uno strabiliante tributo alla musica country (ovviamente, attraverso il suo filtro pop e dance) con il suo album Golden. Questa volta è la disco music del periodo d’oro che viene passata attraverso la lente della musica da club di oggi (compreso l’Auto-Tune). Corde vorticose, riff funky, espedienti sintetici: in Disco non manca nessuna delle affascinanti caratteristiche di questo magico genere. Ed è proprio il brano d’apertura, Magic, ad essere una delle punte di diamante di questo album ultra tonico. Suona come un inno in cui Kylie Minogue sembra prendere per mano l’ascoltatore, per invitarlo a ballare e dimenticare per un attimo le afflizioni della vita. Con la sua interpretazione sensuale ed energica, l’australiana rende giustizia alle dive leggendarie della disco music, con brani che lei ha contribuito a scrivere e comporre. Tra i suoi collaboratori c’è Biff Stannard (suo socio di lunga data) e il finlandese Teemu Brunila (The Crash). È probabilmente con quest’ultimo che il sapore disco acquista più efficacia, con brani come Miss a Thing o Real Groove, in cui la tonalità in minore gioca spalla a spalla con un ritmo frenetico - un mix spesso vincente. Si tratta di un tuffo nostalgico ma allegro in un mondo musicale scintillante, come la copertina dell’album, molto tipica, al limite della parodia.
