Après un Best of intitulé « Teenage Wildlife » qui retrace 25 ans de carrière du groupe Nord Irlandais, Ash vient de sortir un huitième album studio, « Race The Night » . Après leur mini-album « Trailer », qui comprenait les titres prometteurs « Jack Names The Planets », « Uncle Pat » et « Petrol », enregistrés alors qu'ils étaient encore à l'école en 1996, le groupe sort son premier véritable album « 1977 » qui devient numéro 1 des charts britanniques la semaine de sa sortie (1977 étant la date de sortie du premier Star Wars dont le groupe est fan). En 1998 le trio devient quatuor avec l’arrivée de la guitariste Charlotte Hatherley qui participe à trois albums : « Nu-Clear Sounds », « Free All Angels » et « Meltdown ». L'année 2002 sera celle des États-Unis avec une énorme tournée en première partie de Coldpaly et David Bowie suivit d'une nouvelle, début 2003 en tête d'affiche montrant leur réel désir de percer le marché américain. Puis ils se retrouvent à nouveau en trio sur « Twilight of The Innocents » en 2008. Le groupe ne se lance ensuite en précurseur dans une impressionnante série de singles digitaux (« A-Z »), délaissant pour un temps le format album qu’il retrouveront 7 ans plus tard avec « Kablammo! », suivi de « Islands » en 2018, deux albums qui démontrent que l’énergie et la jeunesse du groupe sont toujours intactes.
