Crayon Pop
Crayon Pop are a South Korean K-pop girl group that was created in 2012 by the Chrome Entertainment company, although prior to it had been a four-piece known as Hurricane Pop. During its lifespan the group comprised five members: Soyul, Geummi, Ellin, Choa and Way. Following a debut year of limited success in a highly competitive market, the band scored their first big hit in 2013 with the single 'Bar Bar Bar', the video of which achieved more than 50 million YouTube views. The single itself went to the top of Billboard's K-pop Hot 100 Chart and remained there for eight weeks.
2014 saw Crayon Pop invited to open for Lady Gaga on a 29-date tour of the United States. Because the band members were working on their first full length studio album, 'Evolution Pop Vol. 1', however, only the first month of the tour saw them take the stage. The recording was finally released in September 2016, reaching the number ten spot on the Gaon Music Chart. 2016 also saw founder member Soyul going on hiatus due to reported anxiety. The rest of the group promoted the CD and digital download with interviews and a crowd-funded concert called Winter Party. As 2017 began, however, Chrome Entertainment announced that the band had split up to concentrate on solo work. However, by May, it was revealed that the group would continue albeit without founder member Soyul. No new material has been released since that announcement, however a sub-group featuring twins, Choa and Way called Strawberry Milk released single 'My Universe' in 2019.
