Changer de nom n’entame pas le talent. Shelley, anciennement connu sous le nom de D.R.A.M. depuis sa collaboration avec Lil Yachty sur l’énorme tube Broccoli en 2016, modifie son identité pour son second album, logiquement intitulé Shelley FKA DRAM. Résolument tourné vers l’organique, il réunit une multitude de producteurs tout en parvenant à tenir une unité sonore bluffante. Dans son équipe, on retrouve l’omniprésent watt, également présent en featuring sur le single The Lay Down dans un trio complété par la chanteuse H.E.R.. Une superbe envolée soul/R&B qui ne se refuse aucune décharge d’émotions, notamment avec un long solo de guitare final, preuve que les instruments sont au cœur de cet album. Le crooner sévit sur Beautiful ou sur la très belle reprise de Something About Us de Daft Punk, puis s’efface sur l’énergique Rich & Famous, qui apporte une couleur funk à la fin de la tracklist.
