C’est un Barbiere « di qualità, di qualità » et même de très grande qualité que Deutsche Grammophon. Enregistré durant l’été 1971 à Londres, c’est une des premières rencontres entre Claudio Abbado et le London Symphony Orchestra. C’est aussi le début des éditions philologiques entreprises par Alberto Zedda des œuvres de Rossini, dont les partitions sont recouvertes par les mauvaises traditions depuis plus d’un siècle. On supprime les ajouts devenus, bien à tort, traditionnels, on rétablit aussi certaines coupures et la fine instrumentation d’époque et, surtout, on chante et on joue sans forcer le trait avec un sens inné du théâtre. Un coup de dépoussiérage qui a donné un coup de jeune à ce chef-d’œuvre composé par un génie de vingt-quatre ans.
Il est tout simplement idéal ce Barbier-là ! Un plateau de rêve avec des chanteurs rompus à ce répertoire. Chacun est à sa place, de la Rosine rouée et coquine de Teresa Berganza, au Figaro raffiné et plein d'abattage de Hermann Prey, en passant par le Comte frivole de Luigi Alva jusqu'au ridiculissime Basilio incarné par l'inénarrable Paolo Montarsolo. On s'amuse de cette drôlerie et on admire une fois de plus l'implacable machine si bien huilée du théâtre rossinien sous la baguette sans cesse inventive et frémissante de Claudio Abbado. © François Hudry/Qobuz

Descriptif de l'album

C’est un Barbiere « di qualità, di qualità » et même de très grande qualité que Deutsche Grammophon. Enregistré durant l’été 1971 à Londres, c’est une des premières rencontres entre Claudio Abbado et le London Symphony Orchestra. C’est aussi le début des éditions philologiques entreprises par Alberto Zedda des œuvres de Rossini, dont les partitions sont recouvertes par les mauvaises traditions depuis plus d’un siècle. On supprime les ajouts devenus, bien à tort, traditionnels, on rétablit aussi certaines coupures et la fine instrumentation d’époque et, surtout, on chante et on joue sans forcer le trait avec un sens inné du théâtre. Un coup de dépoussiérage qui a donné un coup de jeune à ce chef-d’œuvre composé par un génie de vingt-quatre ans.
Il est tout simplement idéal ce Barbier-là ! Un plateau de rêve avec des chanteurs rompus à ce répertoire. Chacun est à sa place, de la Rosine rouée et coquine de Teresa Berganza, au Figaro raffiné et plein d'abattage de Hermann Prey, en passant par le Comte frivole de Luigi Alva jusqu'au ridiculissime Basilio incarné par l'inénarrable Paolo Montarsolo. On s'amuse de cette drôlerie et on admire une fois de plus l'implacable machine si bien huilée du théâtre rossinien sous la baguette sans cesse inventive et frémissante de Claudio Abbado. © François Hudry/Qobuz

Bernard Haitink, prophète en son pays

Le grand chef d’orchestre néerlandais nous a quittés le 21 octobre 2021 à l’âge vénérable de 92 ans. Reconnu par ses pairs et dans son pays dès sa jeunesse, Bernard Haitink accomplira la majeure partie de son immense carrière aux Pays-Bas, d’abord à la tête de l’Orchestre de la Radio néerlandaise puis du prestigieux Concertgebouw d’Amsterdam pendant vingt-sept ans, avec lequel il enregistrera de nombreux disques devenus légendaires.
