A 86 ans passés, Willie Nelson ne lève toujours pas le pied et sort même de nouveaux disques quasiment chaque année. Avec le mélancolique Ride Me Back Home (son 69e album studio selon ses experts), le pape de la country hippie enregistre onze chansons majoritairement originales, cosignées avec son vieux complice Buddy Cannon, mêlant son habituel humour à des vignettes aux accents nostalgiques, voire ouvertement réalistes quant à son âge et au temps qui passe (Come On Time). Au milieu, Willie a glissé des reprises du sublime My Favorite Picture of You de Guy Clark, du tubesque Just the Way You Are de Billy Joel et de It's Hard to Be Humble de Mac Davis, qu’il revisite en compagnie de ses fils Lukas et Micah Nelson.
