L'album Chamber Music Society, sorti en 2010, s'est hissé à la première place du Billboard jazz contemporain et a valu à Esperanza Spalding le Grammy Award de la découverte de l'année. Radio Music Society est une suite logique à son prédécesseur et voit son groupe régulier composé de Leo Genovese au piano et de Terry Lynne Carrington à la batterie appuyé par une multitude d'invités parmi lesquels Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Billy Hart, Gretschen Parlato, Lionel Loueke, Leni Stern, Lalah Hathaway ou Q-Tip. Outre les nouvelles compositions de Spalding, l'album propose deux reprises : "I Can't Help It" de Stevie Wonder" et "Endangered Species" de Wayne Shorter, titre pour lequel elle se fend également d'un texte original.
