Patti Austin est de ces chanteuses américaines formées par la scène et de multiples séances en studio, archi professionnelles, capables d'enluminer un standard du jazz comme de produire un hit dance sur mesure ou une ballade soul des plus soyeuse.
Après avoir embrassé une carrière de chanteuse de jazz dans ses premiers albums pour le label CTI de Creed Taylor, notamment dans End of the Rainbow en 1976, Patti Austin se dirige vers des productions plus commerciales et orientées dance. Une série de duos avec Michael Jackson, Yutaka Yokokura ou Ralph McDonald font connaître son registre vocal étendu.
Engagée par Quincy Jones sur son label Qwest, elle signe ce deuxième album pour cette marque. Pur produit de son époque, Patti Austin est boosté en tubes dance surchargés à la façon Chaka Khan (« It's Gonna Be Special », « Rhythm of the Street », « Hot! In the Flames », « Starstruck ») et deux ballades satinées à souhait lorgnant du côté de Diana Ross (la superbe « All Behind Us Now », « Anyway You Can »). Il n'est donc guère étonnant que l'album conserve les qualités (réelles) et les défauts inhérents à cette période, et devrait ravir les nostalgiques des années disco/funk.
