Katy Perry condense tout ce qu'on peut reprocher à The Hills sur un album pop. Elle fustige son petit ami en l'accusant d'aguicher les gays; elle embrasse une fille alors qu'elle n'aime pas les filles; elle nargue un soupirant en lui disant qu'il n'a pas les moyens d'être avec elle, elle fait la fête jusqu'à en vomir, brandit les marques comme des armes, jure avec nonchalance et négocie des faveurs en secret. En gros, elle fait tout pour se faire traiter d'horrible Heidi Montag. Katy Perry ne manque pas de talent: son écriture est digne d'Alanis et elle a le sens du détail. Mais cela ne fait que renforcer le fait que son image de sauvage exécrable a été conçue pour lui permettre d'atteindre la célébrité à laquelle elle aspire.
