Deuxième album solo de Nate Dogg sorti entre de multiples collaborations pour son grand ami Warren G ou son cousin Snoop Doggy Dogg, le producteur Dr. Dre (qui l'a remarqué un beau jour de 1991) ou 2Pac, Music & Me intervient quelques années après son heure de gloire et les deux volumes de G-Funk Classics.
Si Music & Me ne comporte qu'un seul et maigre hit avec « I Got Love », classé dans le creux du Billboard, il recèle de nombreux et profitables featurings de Dr. Dre (« Your Wife »), Snoop Dogg et Goldie Loc, Ludacris (« Real Pimp »), Xzibit et Lil' Mo (« Keep It G.A.N.G.S.T.A. »), Kurupt, Fabolous, Pharoahe Monch, The Eastdisaz ou Jermaine Dupri (« Your Woman Has Just Been Sighted »), et une escouade de producteurs.
Ce retour de Nate Dogg sur ses propres rails a l'avantage de le remettre dans la peau du rappeur, un costume qui lui convient mieux que celui de crooner qui a prévalu sur l'opus précédent et refait parfois surface ici (« Another Short Story »). La production très West Coast - i.e. cool et radieuse - sert à merveille les meilleurs titres renforcés par des gimmicks 80's et apporte à l'album cette patine tout à fait défendable. Si ce n'est un classique, il délivre la meilleure facette de son auteur.
