Les quelques chanceux présents au studio Sound Makers de New York le 17 septembre 1962 doivent se souvenir encore aujourd’hui de leur journée… Réunis autour des micros, trois des plus grands génies de la planète jazz : Duke Ellington au piano, Charles Mingus à la contrebasse et Max Roach à la batterie. A l’arrivée un disque d’une modernité impressionnante (50 ans plus tard, l’effet est assez bluffant !) où les trois hommes s’écoutent, se parlent, s’affrontent, s’enlacent… Le jazz qui nait de ce trio est un sommet qui doit trôner dans toute discothèque idéale digne de ce nom. © MZ/Qobuz
