Un album sans fausse note, encore un pour Denzel Curry. Après l’excellent ZUU paru en 2019, puis UNLOCKED, son projet collaboratif avec Kenny Beats sorti l’année suivante, voici donc Melt My Eyez See Your Future, exercice exempt de ratures et plongé dans la soul tropicale. Le rappeur floridien a sculpté ces nouvelles sonorités dans le lointain héritage de De La Soul, ou dans celui plus récent de Dilated Peoples, preuve que sa posture à cheval entre le rap alternatif et la fureur d’Atlanta est un créneau gagnant. Au milieu de sa propre maîtrise, il convie une liste alléchante d’invités allant de T-Pain sur Troubles à Saul Williams sur Mental en passant par un triptyque magique composé de JID, 6LACK et Rico Nasty sur le superbe Ain’t No Way. Denzel Curry manie en permanence la rage et la volupté, mélange les époques comme sur le dernier titre Ills, dont les pianos jazz savoureux rappellent les origines de ses inspirations. A la production, on retrouve aussi bien Thundercat et Dot Da Genius que Robert Glasper ou JPEGMafia. La crème des esthètes rap semble se bousculer pour travailler avec lui.
