Dernier volume d’une trilogie commencée en 2010 avec Praise & Blame et poursuivie, deux ans plus tard, avec Spirit In The Room, ce Long Lost Suitcase est une fascinante plongée dans les racines musicales de Tom Jones. Le crooner gallois chante ici le blues, le gospel, le rhythm’n’blues, la country, la soul et le rock’n’roll comme nul autre. Génialement produit par Ethan Johns (fils du grand Glyn Johns) qui taille au chanteur un superbe costard aux saveurs vintage et épurée, ce disque sans fioriture et totalement roots enchaine les reprises de merveilles signées par des légendes comme Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Sonny Boy Williamson ou les Rolling Stones mais aussi, bien plus près de nous, par la songwriteuse Gillian Welch ou par le duo Milk Carton Kids.
