Après le virage rock de Listen like Thieves sort un album portant bien son nom, «‘Kick’ litterally kicks ass !» pourrait-on dire. C’est l’album qui a fait exploser le groupe en le propulsant au top de la pop mondiale et le plaçant aux côtés des grands groupes de toujours. Dosage parfait des influences rock, funk, pop et punk, il aura valu à INXS de rester premiers dans les charts internationaux pendant de longs mois et de s’assurer un succès populaire mais aussi d’estime. Si on ne doit retenir qu’un album dans la carrière du groupe, ce sera celui-là, mais on prendra soin d’ignorer le sirupeux «Never tear us apart» pour lui préférer des morceaux où la guitare caracole avec bonheur comme «Calling all nations».
