One of Lehar's three most popular operettas, along with The Merry Widow and The Land of Smiles, Eva is the most poorly represented of them on record, with only this Spanish-language recording (based on a 1913 Spanish version approved by the composer) available. With its story of an innocent orphaned girl, adopted and raised by the workers at a factory and romanced by the new owner, Eva has some elements in common with When the Lark Sings, but benefits from a stronger, more pleasing score and libretto. This recording is lacking in some fidelity, with certain amount of boom in the bass and a constricted high end, but the performance is satisfying, capturing the effervescent lyricism and good spirits of the story very vividly.
