Voilà un album complètement bluffant, tant par la qualité des pièces tardives de Busoni présentées que par l'interprétation, on a envie de dire, la vision, qu'en offre le pianiste canadien Marc-André Hamelin, dont les ressources pianistiques semblent décidément sans limites. Les pièces de virtuosité "à la Liszt" alternent avec des compositions dont les réminiscences sont multiples. C'est d’ailleurs le côté hétéroclite de sa musique qu'on a souvent reproché à Busoni. Fabuleux pianiste lui-même, il faisait flèche de tout bois pour le pire et le meilleur. Il faut un artiste de la trempe de Hamelin pour donner à ce long corpus (plus de trois heures de musique !) un cohérence et une attention sans cesse en éveil. Des Elégies à la réécriture d'oeuvres pour clavier de Bach, tout l'univers foisonnant et excentrique de Busoni est là dans une sorte de résumé de l'écriture pianistique à travers le temps. Fascinant. FH
