Des cantates de Bach évoquant l’Éternité…En réalité, d’une manière ou d’une autre, toutes ses cantates traitent de l’éternité de la vie après la mort, de l’éternité de Dieu et de Jésus-Christ ! Bon, admettons que la Cantate BWV 20 porte le mot en son titre : « Ô éternité, toi, parole foudroyante »), et que c’est là un argument éditorial aussi convaincant que bien d’autres. On ne répétera jamais assez que dans les quelque deux cents cantates qui nous sont parvenues de Bach, il y aurait de quoi assembler plusieurs passions ou oratorios, tellement ce corpus déborde de sublimités, hélas souvent quelque peu oubliées. Dans la Cantate BWV 116 se trouvent plusieurs surprises de taille : le quatrième mouvement est un véritable trio vocal (fort rare dans la production sacrée de Bach), d’un caractère hyper-lyrique ; l’ouverture est un vrai concerto pour chœur et pour instruments solistes ; l’aria d’alto, avec son lamento de hautbois, reste l’une des choses les plus poignantes qui puissent s’imaginer. Bon, on pourrait égrener autant de splendeurs dans chacune de ces six cantates dont le point commun est qu’elles ont toutes été écrites pour l’année liturgique 1724-25 à Leipzig.
