Après le succès colossal de Mozart, L'Opéra Rock, le tandem Dove Attia-Albert Cohen remet le costume à l’honneur. Prenez un paysan révolté, la gouvernante des enfants de Marie-Antoinette, une histoire d’amour impossible, des chansons et vous obtenez 1789, Les Amants de la Bastille.
Lancé par « Ça ira », l’album contient des titres avec un air de « déjà entendu », prêts à tout dégommer d’ici le spectacle en septembre 2012 (« Hey Ha », « Je veux le monde»). Il reprend donc ce qui a fait le succès de la précédente comédie musicale : des paroles simples, des refrains massifs, des voix fortes. La « dream team » de Mozart reste inchangée : Rod Janois, Jean-Pierre Pilot, Olivier Schultheis, William Rousseau, Dove Attia, Vincent Baguian et François Chouquet.
Le disque alterne une pop-rock huilée (« Pour la peine») avec des ballades enflammées (« Le Cri de ma naissance »). On trouve aussi des touches électro (« Je mise tout »). Si la révolution citoyenne n’a pas lieu dans les urnes, elle sera au moins présente sur scène au Palais des Sports.
