Solo sette mesi dopo Chemtrails Over the Country Club, mentre il pianeta sta gradualmente uscendo dal suo letargo pandemico, Lana Del Rey pubblica Blue Banisters, il suo ottavo album pieno di nuove gemme... È affascinante vedere come questa newyorkese situata a Los Angeles riesca a mettere da parte le sue caratteristiche più note (il suo broncio, il suo look, i suoi video, ecc.) per potersi concentrare solo sulle sue canzoni, il suo unico, vero Graal... Perché dietro l'intimità ovattata, le melodie sensuali e gli arrangiamenti di pregio, si cela una grande autrice / compositrice. Se in Chemtrails Over the Country Club il suo pop era più folk che mai e l'eco e il riverbero che avvolgevano la sua voce sensuale e ipnotica la posizionavano lassù, oltre le nuvole, questa volta mette più varietà nelle sue composizioni, assieme ad alcuni cenni ai suoi brani del passato. Alcuni di essi avevano fatto delle parziali apparizioni nei suoi dischi precedenti. Un eclettismo che forse riflette la sua personalità dalla mille sfaccettature?
Se le canzoni in stile “diario di una cattiva ragazza” rimangono il suo dominio preferito (come su Black Bathing Suit), Lana Del Rey fa anche la drama queen in un duetto con Miles Kane (Dealer) e si cimenta nella terapia familiare (con Sweet Carolina, co-scritto con suo padre e sua sorella). È un susseguirsi di trame sonore, di sfoghi ed esplosioni che ipnotizzano... L'ascolto di Blue Banisters non ci porta in terre sconosciute, ma ci regala un nuovo essenziale pezzo del puzzle Lana Del Rey.
