Mithun Sharma

Born on January 11, 1985, in Mumbai, India, award-winning Hindi filmmaker, songwriter, and singer Mithun Sharma is better known by the name Mithoon. He was born into a family of musicians: his grandfather Pandit Ram Prasad Sharma, father Naresh Sharma, and uncle Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma were well-known names in the Bollywood and Indian music communities. Mithoon began studying music at the age of 11 and was taught by some of his father’s musician friends. His first recordings to be featured in Bollywood films were 2005’s “Woh Lamhe Woh Baatein” (from Zeher) and “Aadat” (from Kalyug). His first solo compositions appeared in the films Bas Ek Pal (2006) and Anwar (2007) and he wrote all the songs for 2007’s Anwar and The Train and 2010’s Lamhaa. His most famous Hindi composition is “Tum Hi Ho”, which is taken from the 2013 film Aashiqui 2. Sung by Arijit Singh, the song received five million views/streams in the first 10 days of release. The song went on to win numerous awards from the 59th Filmfare Awards, the Big Star Entertainment Award (2013), the Zee Cine Awards (2014), the Sixth Mirchi Music Awards, and many others. “Sanam Re”, also sung by Arijit Singh, was taken from the 2016 film of the same name and became the most streamed Hindi song that year. Mithoon has collaborated with many artists over the years include Atif Aslam, Abhijeet Sawant, Ning Baizura, and many others. Mithoon has remained a prolific artist and has continued to compose songs for films including “Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage” (from Kabir Singh), “Aashiqui Aa Gayi” (from Radhe Shyam).
