Nell’ambito di un viaggio piuttosto vasto attraverso il lavoro del Cantor di Lipsia voluto da Keith Jarrett, nel 1988 veniva alla luce un’interpretazione del Libro I de Il Clavicembalo Ben Temperato di J. S. Bach, registrato nel febbraio 1987. Questa nuova versione proposta -al pianoforte- dalla ECM New Series risale allo stesso periodo. Registrata il 7 marzo 1987 alla Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, è impregnata dello stesso desiderio di fluidità nel discorso e di un’irresistibile pulsione, il che è particolarmente apprezzato nelle fughe che possono risuonare grazie ad altre dita vigorose (do diesis maggiore). Tutto sembra voler ballare, essere in movimento (re maggiore). Non troveremo qui la paletta variopinta dispiegata nelle polifonie da pianisti come Tatiana Nikolayeva, Samuel Feinberg o anche da un clavicembalista come Gustav Leonhardt. Per Keith Jarrett, Bach resta in definitiva il trionfo della struttura, e lo interpreta per confrontarsi soprattutto con una delle caratteristiche della propria arte: l’elaborazione polifonica. Il lavoro del Cantor è un supporto alla propria creatività musicale come jazzista e improvvisatore. Poesia ed emozione, tuttavia, non mancano mai. Una versione che delizierà tutti gli amanti dell’arte di Keith Jarrett che potranno confrontare le due versioni realizzate a distanza di qualche settimana l’una dall’altra. © Qobuz
