The focus is on the short-lived tenor saxophonist Bobby Jones (who doubles on clarinet) throughout this interesting if not essential release. Jones is accompanied by bassist George Mraz and drummer Freddie Waits on his three-part "Hill Country Suite" and three of his other numbers. In addition to Charles Mingus, hard bop and touches of the avant-garde, Bobby Jones' originals were influenced by country and folk music, making for some intriguing sounds.
