Joni Mitchell continua a riportare alla luce i suoi archivi, con un secondo volume di rarità e materiale inedito che segue Archives - Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967) uscito nel 2020. Con le sue 119 tracce (più di 6 ore di musica!), Archives, Vol. 2: The Reprise Years (1968-1971) offre, in ordine cronologico, canzoni registrate durante gli anni tra il suo primo e quarto album, rispettivamente Song to a Seagull (1968) e Blue (1971). Una sorta di epoca d'oro della sua singolarità artistica all'interno di una scena folk in cui i contendenti per il podio erano tanti. Un album che è soprattutto un'istantanea della sua evoluzione personale, dai piccoli palchi dei club popolari ai locali più prestigiosi... Troviamo alcune demo registrate a casa sua o nell'appartamento della sua amica Jane Lurie a New York, sessioni al Sunset Sound studio a Hollywood, un’apparizione televisiva nello show di Dick Cavett, dal vivo ad Ann Arbor o all'Hibou Coffee House di Ottawa (registrato da Jimi Hendrix in persona!). Questo cofanetto include anche un bel concerto londinese dell'ottobre 1970 trasmesso dalla BBC dove eseguì Carey, River e My Old Man, che sarebbero state presentate l'anno seguente su Blue. Uno spettacolo dove per metà del tempo è stata accompagnata da un certo James Taylor... Un altro punto forte di questa impressionante raccolta è il concerto del 1° febbraio 1969 alla Carnegie Hall di New York, una sorta di momento topico per un’artista che allora aveva solo 25 anni... Come il precedente, questo abbondante cofanetto è destinato soprattutto agli aficionados più accaniti della cantante canadese, anche se i curiosi rischiano di essere ipnotizzati da questa voce che sembra provenire da un altro pianeta e dai testi introspettivi così personali, il cui stile influenzerà in seguito - e ancora oggi - schiere di cantautori... © Marc Zisman/Qobuz
