Viju Shah

Viju Shah is a film composer in the Bollywood industry, best known for his keyboard-driven arrangements and cinematic songwriting. He was born in India on June 5, 1959. His father, Kalyanji Virji Shah, was a legendary figure in Bollywood, having written award-winning scores for films like Kora Kagaz Muqaddar Ka Sikandar as part of the duo Kalyanji–Anandji. Shah soon joined the family business, too, teaming up with Kalyanji–Anandji to help write music for the 1989 action film Tridev. The movie and its accompanying soundtrack were both hits, with Tridev winning Filmfare Awards for "Best Sound Recording" and "Best Female Playback Singer." Shah's work on Tridev also earned him a Filmfare Award nomination for "Best Music Director." He received multiple nominations in the same category throughout the 1990s, thanks to his contributions to subsequent films like Mohra (1994), Tere Mere Sapne (1996), Gupt: The Hidden Truth (1997), and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998). Two songs from Mohra — "Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast" and "Tip Tip Barsa Pani" — became Hindi classics, turning the Mohra soundtrack into one of the highest-selling Bollywood soundtracks of the decade. Shah later appeared on the soundtrack to 2000's Beti No.1 not only as a composer, but also as a singer, performing the song "Mehfil Taa Sajdi" alongside playback singers Udit Narayan and Bhupinder Singh. Even so, he mainly worked as a film composer throughout the 2000s, 2010s, and early 2020s, earning several radio hits — including "Saat Samundar Paar Sad," which reached Number 72 on India's Top 100 chart in 2023 — along the way.
