Moon Pool & Dead Band
Moon Pool & Dead Band is an experimental techno duo consisting of two veterans of Detroit's indie rock and experimental music scenes, Nate Young (Wolf Eyes) and Dave Shettler (the Sights, Koufax). Their gritty analog synth explorations are directly inspired by the innovations of their city's techno scene, and are surprisingly funky and danceable. The duo formed in early 2010 and began releasing limited cassettes and CD-Rs through Wolf Eyes' AA Records. They made their vinyl debut in 2011, with 7" single "Patsy" (Cass Records) and a self-titled LP (Agitated Records). Not Not Fun released the duo's Human Fly EP in 2012, featuring the Cramps-sampling title track. Three years later, Moon Pool & Dead Band's MEQ double 12" was the first release on Midwich Productions, a Chicago-based electronic label founded by Magas, a fellow veteran of the Michigan noise scene. The label also released Humanizer, Moon Pool's second full-length, in 2016.
