Mattia Ometto
The Italian pianist Mattia Ometto has exploited the diverse training he received in France, Italy, and the U.S., forging a style with elements of golden-age piano virtuosity. One of his teachers, Aldo Ciccolini, has dubbed him "one of those artists whose responsibility is to make audiences perceive what real talent is."
Ometto was born in Padua in 1982 and was trained at the Venice Conservatory, where his teacher was Anna Barutti. He went on for further study with Ciccolini in Paris, and then with the octogenarian American virtuoso Earl Wild in Palm Springs, California. Not only his style, but his bookings have reflected this set of teachers: Ometto has performed widely in both Europe and the U.S. His formal debut came in Paris at the Théatre du Rond Point des Champs Elysées. Ometto's appearances in the U.S. have included not only those at Carnegie Hall in New York, where he has played both as a recitalist and as a concerto soloist, but also concerts in Boston, Los Angeles (with the Lyric Symphony Orchestra), and Des Moines, Iowa. He has performed at the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice, in Ankara, Turkey, with the Academic Başkent Orchestra; and in Vidin, Bulgaria, with the Vidin State Philharmonic Orchestra. Ometto has also been heard in radio broadcasts on the BBC, RAI International, Radio della Svizzera Italiana, WGBH in Boston, Iowa State Public Radio, and Kulturradio Berlin, among others. He has released several albums on the Brilliant label, accompanying Francesca Scaini on an album of Franck: Melodies and, in 2018, joining Leslie Howard for a collection of Liszt: Symphonic Poems in two-piano arrangements. Ometto is on the faculty at the J. Tomadini Conservatory in Udine and at the C. Pollini Conservatory in Padua. He has given master classes at Drake University in Des Moines, Redlands University, and the Accademia della Musica in Padua, among other schools.
