Locate S,1

After moving through various stage names and stylistic approaches, Christina Schneider took up the Locate S,1 moniker for her ethereal experiments with observational pop and mercurial songwriting. Her early recordings led to a relationship with the Captured Tracks label, which released her 2020 sophomore album, Personalia, as well as its cathartic and genre-hopping 2023 follow up, Wicked Jaw. Based out of Athens, Georgia, Schneider's music took many different forms as she found her way. In addition to playing with several bands and frequently collaborating, she created solo music under her own name as well as the aliases Jepeto Solutions, CE Schneider Topical, and others. Throughout the first part of the 2010s, Schneider's styles shifted more frequently than her stage names, but she used the Locate S,1 project to explore the boundaries of pop. The first recorded material from Locate S,1 came with 2018 full-length album Healing Contest, released by the L.A. label Nicey Music. After hearing one of Schneider's earlier cassette releases, Brooklyn indie institution Captured Tracks signed Locate S,1 in 2019 and re-released Healing Contest before offering up Personalia in April of 2020, the second volume of Locate S,1's wonderfully warped art pop. Schneider worked as the sole producer on third album Wicked Jaw, a collection of intense lyrical expressions set to songs that jumped from one genre to the next. Wicked Jaw was released by Captured Tracks in July of 2023.
