La Perfecta

Well-versed in such varied styles such as cadence, compas, jazz, and calypso, La Perfecta are a big band from La Trinité, Martinique. Formed in the early ‘70s, the orchestra has had a revolving lineup of musicians since its inception, most notably conductors Daniel Marie-Alphonsine (1978-1982), who contributed to shaping the group’s trademark sound, and Joël Zabulon (2002-2006). Throughout their decades-long career, they have reached several generations of music lovers and performed in some of the most famous venues in the French-speaking world, such as Le Bataclan, L’Olympia, and La Cigale. Their biggest hit, the single “La Divinité,” included in their 1979 album L'inoubliable Perfecta, enjoyed a great deal of popularity in the Francosphere upon its release and was featured on Lucien Jean-Baptiste’s La Première Étoile, released in 2009. The group went on hiatus in the early ‘80s, only to resurface with a different lineup in 1998 and an eponymous full-length released that same year. In 2002, La Perfecta’s classic lineup reconvened for the album Reunion… and celebrated their fortieth anniversary with the live album 40 years of Music in 2010 under the direction of Cédric Chevignac. The release of 45 years of Harmony in 2015 marked a new phase in the band’s career, as longtime vocalist Paulo Abin quit the group and was replaced by Thierry Saint-Honoré.
