Hourglass

Progressive rock band Hourglass emerged out of Utah at the turn of the millennium, blending complex yet melodic song structures with the precision and drive of metal. Led by guitarist Brick Williams, the group was prolific during its first decade releasing four studio albums including 2009's double-disc Oblivious to the Obvious. After a 13-year gap, Hourglass returned in 2022 with the epic single "Void Within." Since debuting with 2000's This Lonely Time and Place, Williams has remained the band's sole continuous member, guiding Hourglass' musical vision through the years. Employing a different vocalist with each album, original singer Jon Shumway was succeeded by Chad Neth on 2002's The Journey Into. Drummer John Dunston also made his first appearance on that record and has remained with the band ever since. Cody Walker took over vocals on 2004's Subconscious which also featured another group mainstay in keyboardist Eric Robertson. The latter half of the decade was spent preparing the band's ambitious fourth LP, a behemoth double album titled Oblivious to the Obvious which featured the vocal talents of Michael Turner. Over the decade that followed, Williams occupied himself with other projects and Hourglass effectively went on hiatus until 2022. Their first new work since 2009 was the 25-minute single "Void Within," which featured new vocalist Yahosh Bonner.
