Daði Freyr

Born on June 30, 1992, in Reykjavík, Iceland, Daði Freyr is a Berlin-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Raised in Denmark, he began his career in the band RetRoBot, who won the Músíktilraunir (Music Experiments) award in 2012. His solo career received a boost in 2017, when his song "Hvað með það?" came in second place in the Söngvakeppnin contest. He released his first EP, Næsta Skref, that same year, followed in 2019 by his full-length debut album, & Co. He then assembled collection of family members and friends, dubbed the group "Daði og Gagnamagnið," and recorded the song “Think About Things.” The track reached Number 1 in Iceland and was scheduled to represent Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 before the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the contest. Nevertheless, multiple countries held their own variations of the Eurovision contest that year, and “Think About Things” won in Austria, Sweden, Finland, Australia, Denmark, and Norway. One year later, Daði Freyr released a second full-length album, Welcome, and reconvened Daði og Gagnamagnið to record another Eurovision song, "10 Years." The song finished in fourth place and became his second Number 1 hit in Iceland.
