Belle Mt.

Belle Mt. is the project of British singer/songwriter Matt Belmont, whose blend of gentle, introspective folk and spacious pop found an audience at the end of the 2010s, thanks to streaming hits like "Hollow" and "Loving You." After working as a solo indie folk artist under his own name for several years, Belmont withdrew from performing in 2014 and spent two years reflecting on his creative approach. During the apex of this period, he was staying at a friend's rustic holiday home in the foothills of the French Alps where, inspired by the natural beauty, he developed the lushly cinematic folk-pop sound that would inform his next musical phase. Re-emerging as Belle Mt. (pronounced like his surname) his demos caught the attention of Grammy-winning producer Femke Weidema, who produced his 2018 debut EP, Volume 1. The acoustic track "Hollow" began to put up big numbers on the streaming platforms, as did another song, "Loving You." Belle Mt. issued a handful of additional singles over the next two years including "Hydra" and "Origins." The continued success of "Hollow" yielded a more fully arranged version of the song in 2020.
