Los fumetas de Flaming Lips han buceado en parte de sus archivos para lanzar este collage que lleva por título Scratching The Door, una especie de álbum de fotos sonoras, remasterizadas para la ocasión, que reúne materiales de sus primeros años. Dentro encontramos grabaciones de entre 1985 y 1989, a cargo de su alineación original: Wayne Coyne a la guitarra, su hermano Mark al micro, Michael Ivins al bajo y Dave Kotska a la batería. El fruto de sus primeros afanes se plasma aquí en un primer y autoproducido EP, demos y una versión francamente destroyer del Anyway, Anywho, Anywhere de los Who. Estos hoy cincuentones contaban por entonces 20 años pero su sonido era ya brutal, un crudo post-punk de inclinaciones psicodélicas, guitarras sucias y desaliñadas y bajo atronador (Flaming Lips Theme Song), pautado por incendiarias ráfagas de armónica (Handsome Johnny) que hacían temblar Oklahoma City hasta los cimientos. En junio de 2018 saldrá Seeing The Unseeable: The Complete Studio Recordings Of The Flaming Lips 1986-1990, recopilación de sus primeros discos pertenecientes al periodo Restless Records, antes de ser fichados por Warner.
