YOKOKIMTHURSTON

YOKOKIMTHURSTON represents a unique collaboration between three respected veterans of the experimental music community: Yoko Ono, Kim Gordon, and Thurston Moore. Ono, of course, has a rich history as a challenging and forward-thinking artist and musician going back to the late '60s, while Gordon and Moore were founding members of the influential and adventurous rock band Sonic Youth. Moore is a longtime admirer of Ono's work who remixed a track from her album Rising for a 1996 collection, and titled one of the songs on his solo album Psychic Hearts "Ono Soul," and he and Gordon have performed live with Ono on several occasions. In June 2012, Ono, Gordon, and Moore announced the release of a collaborative single, "Early in the Morning," issued as a fundraiser for Ashinaga Rainbow House, a charitable group building a center for Japanese children orphaned by the 2011 tsunami. The single was a preview of a full-length album, simply titled YOKOKIMTHURSTON, scheduled for release in September 2012. As well as featuring the first studio collaboration between three iconic figures in rock's avant-garde, the YOKOKIMTHURSTON album also marked the first music featuring both Gordon and Moore to be released in the wake of the October 2011 announcement that the couple, who married in 1984, was seeking a divorce and that Sonic Youth was on indefinite hiatus.
