Uhm Jung Hwa

Born on August 17, 1969 in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea, Uhm Jung-hwa is a dance and electropop singer, entertainer, actress, and dancer, and one of the most influential women in the Korean entertainment industry. Her career began in 1987 as a member of the chorus for broadcasting company MBC. She made her 1992 film debut in Marriage Story. In 1993, she released her first album, Sorrowful Secret. Her next two albums were not huge successes but they slowly built up her fanbase. Her 1998 album Invitation included the charting singles “Poison” and “Invitation”. In 1999, she released her fifth album 005.1999.06, which was a huge success, climbing all the way to the top of the South Korean chart. The album featured the singles “I Don’t Know” and “Festival”. She released a series of hit albums in the new millennium including Queen of Charisma (2000), Hwa (2001), Self Control (2004), and Prestige (2006). After the 2008 EP, D.I.S.C.O., she put her music career on hold and focused on her acting. Her successful acting career - which included Haeundae, one of the highest-grossing Korean movies of all time - earned her several awards. She also found time to launch successful clothing and lingerie lines. In 2016, after an 8 year break, Uhm Jung-hwa returned to music with her album The Cloud Dream of the Nine, which included the charting singles “Dreamer” and “Ending Credit”.
