Udit Narayan Jha

Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan was born Udit Narayan Jha on December 1, 1955 in Baisi, Bihar, India. He began performing as a folk artist in the 1970s, and began his successful run in Bollywood with the 1980 Hindi language movie Unees-Bees. He continued to work steadily, all of which led to the soundtrack for the 1988 film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, a project that garnered him his first Filmfare Award. He became a mainstay in for the next two decades winning numerous musical awards for his work in such projects as 1996’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, 1997’s Raja Hindustani, 2000’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, 2001’s Lagaan, 2002’s Zindagi Khoobsoorat Hai, and 2004’s Swades. He won a 2005 National Film Award for his music production work on Kab Hoi Gawna Hamar. During this time he was given national honors and by the early 2010s he was capturing Lifietime Achievement awards from various institutions. He was still scoring chart success forty years after his movie debut with the 2021 single “Kisi Din Banoongi Main Raja”.
