SunYears

Drawing from the traditions of early rock, thoughtful folk-rock, and tuneful psychedelic pop, SunYears is the project of Peter Bjorn and John's Peter Morén. Appearing in 2023, SunYears' collaborative debut album, Come Fetch My Soul!, featured duets with such well-regarded contributors as Ron Sexsmith and Kathryn Williams. Peter Bjorn and John's ninth album, Endless Dream, arrived in March 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns were becoming widespread, and their U.S. tour in support of the album was canceled. Forced off the road, Peter Morén found himself shifting his focus to loves that may seem at odds: playing guitar alone and making music collaboratively. He contributed to James Yorkston's 2021 album, The Wide Wide River, and that, along with experiences like gigging with Robert Forster (the Go-Betweens), compelled him to seek to further collaborators. Finding a sweet spot between "band" and "solo project," SunYears (a reference to classic Memphis label Sun Records and to the passage of time) encompasses solo and collaborative material; while some of the songs that made their way onto the project's debut album were begun by Morén as early as 2016, he ultimately brought in singer/songwriters such as Ron Sexsmith, Jess Williamson, Kathryn Williams, and Fruit Bats' Eric D. Johnson to provide both vocals and feedback in Stockholm around this time, resulting in several duets. The completed Come Fetch My Soul! arrived on Yep Roc in June of 2023.
