Nikhita Gandhi

Born on 1 October 1991 in Kolkata, West Bengal, versatile Indian playback singer Nikhita Gandhi has added her voice to a wealth of Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, and Kannada cinema while simultaneously building her own independent music portfolio. As a former studio of Indian soundtrack maestro A. R. Rahman, she released her first Bengali album, Kotha—a re-arrangement of Nazrul Geeti, songs written by renowned poet Kazi Nazrul Islam—in 2012 and in 2013 completed her first playback project, singing "Modern Kalyanam" with Megha for Tamil-language rom-com Kalyana Samayal Saadham. Her breakthrough came the following year with "Ladio" (composed A. R. Rahman) for Shankar's film I. Two years later, she was nominated as Female Vocalist of the Year for her work on "Ghar" from rom-com Jab Harry Met Sejal, also receiving a nod at the 3rd Filmfare Awards East for best playback singer (female) for her Bengali song "Tomra Ekhono Ki" from Meghnad Badh Rahasya. The following year she won the Nestle Kitkat Sony Mix Audience Music Award for best duet for Bollywood chartbuster "Qaafirana" with Arijit Singh from Kedarnath. Following the release of singles like “Jhalle kalle” (2020), "Humnava" and "Ruh" (2022), she dropped the Saazish EP in 2022, comprising three self-penned and self-composed tracks—"Pitch Black Dark," "Saazish," and "Khushnaseeb."
