Lora Szafran

Born on July 24, 1960, in Krosno, Poland, Lora Szafran is an award-winning vocalist. While primarily a jazz performer, she also incorporates other genres into her repertoire. She graduated with honors from the Jazz and Popular Music Department of the Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland in 1986. Two years later, she collaborated with acoustic jazz group New Presentation, recording two albums with them: Lonesome Dancer (1989) and You’ve Changed (1993). In between those albums, she released the solo album Up the Head (1991), which was more pop-oriented than her other releases. She performed at many music festivals before releasing the album Tylko Chopin (1994), which was followed by Memories (2002). Her 2003 album Śpiewnik Nahornego featured compositions by musician and composer Włodzimierz Nahorny, who also performed on the album. Lora Szafran’s 2004 album The Way to You was a collaboration with jazz pianist/arranger Bogdan Hołownia. In January 2012, she released the award-winning album Secrets of Life According to Leonard Cohen, a tribute to the Canadian singer/songwriter. Her next album, Nad Ranem, was released in October 2013 and proved to be her most diverse album yet.
