Ji Young Lim

Now in her early twenties, Ji Young Lim started learning the violin when she was seven years old, and went on to study at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts and at the Korea National University of Art. She currently attends the Kronberg Academy in Germany, which nestles in the countryside near Frankfurt. It brings together exceptionally gifted young string players and experienced artists who act as teachers and mentors. (The names of the musicians on the Academy’s Artistic Council could hardly be more impressive; they include Gidon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet and András Schiff.) The violin she plays is the 1708 “Huggins” Stradivarius, which she has on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation as part of her First Prize from the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2015.

Before her crucial victory in Brussels, Ji Young Lim was bronze medallist at the 2014 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, where she received a special prize for her Mozart. Her past and current schedule includes concertos with major orchestras in Belgium, Russia, Poland, Brazil, China, Taiwan and her native Korea, where her appearances include dates with some distinguished visitors: London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo’s NHK Symphony Orchestra (under David Zinman) and the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse (under Tugan Sokhiev). Her festival invitations have included the Hong Kong Arts Festival, Copenhagen Summer Festival, Gstaad Menuhin Festival and, in South Korea, the Great Mountains Music Festival. © Warner Classics
