Delilah
Born in Paris but raised in Hackney, East London, Paloma Stoecker recorded her first songs for a college music project and soon had a host of record companies banging on her door. Signing a major deal with Atlantic at just 17, Stoecker changed her name in order to avoid confusion with Paloma Faith and developed into the character Delilah - an icy electro-pop diva named after her Cuban great-grandmother - who was musically a cross between Beyoncé, Aaliyah and Sade. She spent two or three years finding her voice and developing as a songwriter while touring as back-up singer with Chase and Status and co-writing their single Time And Don't Be Afraid with grime rapper Wretch 32. She went on to make her own UK Top 20 impact with debut single Go in 2011. Full of atmospheric trip hop and futuristic R&B, her album From The Roots Up (2012) shot to Number 5 in the UK charts as Delilah went on to open for Prince and was acclaimed by Chaka Khan as one of the breakthrough stars of the year.
