Arne Jansen

Jazz guitarist Arne Jansen was born on November 26, 1975, in Kiel, Germany. Although originally influenced by rock artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Dire Straits, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Pink Floyd, and the Beatles, he discovered jazz guitarists Pat Metheny and John Scofield when he was 17. After studying jazz guitar at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1996 to 2001, he went on to continue his guitar studies with Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, and others. Arne Jansen joined the National Youth Orchestra of Germany between 1998 and 2000 and did international tours with various ensembles. His collaborators include BuJazzO, Firomanum, DanGer (a Danish-German sextet), Fitzwilliam String Quartet, and the Film Orchestra Babelsberg. The guitarist formed the Arne Jansen Trio and released the albums My Tree (2006) and Younger Than That Now (2008). Along with his trio, he has played many high-profile shows and festivals including the Jazzfest Berlin (2008), Jazz Baltica (2009 and 2015), the Jazzahead-German Jazz Meeting (2010), and the Jazz Utsav-Festival in Delhi, India (2014). Arne Jansen released the solo album The Sleep of Reason (Ode to Goya) in 2013. Arne Janson was a prize-winner at the Berlin Senate’s Studio-Competition (2007) and has won several awards during his career including two Echo Jazz Awards (in 2014 and 2017) . In 2023, Arne Jansen released the album Closer, which was a collaboration with German jazz trumpeter Nils Wülker.
