Comme autrefois Pears et Britten, Ian Bostridge s’associe au compositeur Thomas Adès pour cet enregistrement du Voyage d’hiver de Schubert, capté lors d’un concert au fameux Wigmore Hall de Londres, en 2018. Avec sa voix et son style atypiques, le chanteur britannique divise les avis. On aime ou l'on déteste sans réserve. Étant plutôt dans la première catégorie, nous ne saurions trop conseiller cet enregistrement très différent de la version en studio enregistrée il y a quelques années pour EMI avec le grand pianiste norvégien Leif Ove Andsnes. Par rapport à ce disque splendide, cette nouvelle version est plus simple, comme apaisée. Thomas Adès s’est appuyé sur les manuscrits originaux pour construire un accompagnement tout en finesse où plane l’indicible mélancolie du jeune compositeur se sachant condamné. Une mortelle randonnée vue ici sous l’angle de la solitude, du regret et de la résignation. Le premier volet d’une trilogie qui regroupera à terme les trois grands cycles de Schubert enregistrés en live par les mêmes musiciens. © François Hudry/Qobuz
