Dopo le esperienze folli e geniali di Revolver e Sergent Pepper's, i Beatles si rituffano nella scrittura pura e dura, cercando più sobrietà e lasciando da parte i recenti deliri psichedelici, per quanto fossero stati geniali. Pubblicato nel novembre 1968, il doppio White Album è un ritorno a un pop e un rock più lineari, all’essenza stessa della loro arte. Sentimento amplificato dal titolo eponimo del disco, The Beatles, che non deve però nascondere il crescente disaccordo tra i quattro musicisti. Quattro musicisti per quattro personalità musicali che lasciano intravvedere le loro differenze nelle varie canzoni e prefigurano l’inizio della fine del gruppo e le future carriere da solisti… Nonostante questo eclettismo totale, i Beatles riescono a firmare un nuovo percorso, assolutamente unico, di cui si gusta ogni tappa come se fosse un vero giro del mondo.
