Nel 2016, Ray LaMontagne aveva di nuovo destabilizzato i suoi fan con Ouroboros. Logico per uno che non è mai stato possibile inquadrare, dato il suo mix di folk vibrante stile Nick Drake, di Southern soul, di blues minimale e di classic rock. Con quel sesto album concepito insieme a Jim James del gruppo My Morning Jacket, il cantautore del New Hampshire aggiungeva un nuovo tassello al suo puzzle stilistico. Ouroboros riproponeva infatti i segni caratteristici dei suoi dischi precedenti ma con un tocco sognante, quasi psichedelico, come fuoriuscito dai vecchi opus dei Pink Floyd. Insomma, si era raramente ascoltato un LaMontagne tanto intenso e onirico… Due anni dopo, questo Part Of Light lo riporta a elucubrazioni più roots e più classiche, al Ray LaMontagne erede di Cat Stevens più che di David Gilmour. Soprattutto, questo settimo opus è pervaso da un’impressionante forza spirituale, uno slancio rivestito da sonorità ricche di riverberi.
